Getting started
Can start from either geb.kit or geb.tcl. The kit has the script
plus DLL's for tktable and sqlite3 -- Windows, Linux 32, and Linux 64. They behave identically.
Starting either way there are two modes of use:
- Can create in-memory database for its own tables (good for
initial exploration of GEB). Nothing is written to disk, other than the
usual TEMP stuff done by any kit.
- Can copy its guts to new or existing SQLite file and create small boot file
- Thereafter neither geb.kit nor geb.tcl is needed
- GEB can be modified and new features added and saved
Startup Actions of kit or script
- Creates tclcode table in memory or new or existing database
- Opens file windows for main and TEMP
- Opens editruntcl window (large code blocks, just GEB itself initially)
- Opens window listing views and indices
Exploring GEB:
- Read through this help system
- Look through all the menus
- Explore GEB code (select various code rows)
- Attach an existing database (file menu) and explore it
- Create new GEB system (database and boot script)
- Select and run "makegeb" in editruntcl window
- Select new or existing database file
- Enter name for boot script
